Dear readers, hello to all of you. In my previous posts I covered virtualization and installing VirtualBox. In this post, I’ll talk about operating systems, which are the main theme behind those two topics. Happy reading. :)

Operating System:

An operating system is system software that ensures the programs, software, and hardware components inside our computers work together in an orderly fashion. Operating systems are the essential systems that let us use our computers much more easily. Put more simply, they’re the software and systems we’re presented with the moment we turn on our computer, and they provide the interface users interact with. These systems carry out the commands we give our computers, and in doing so, they establish the connection between users and the computer.

How does an operating system work?

The moment we press the power button on our computer, the boot screen (BIOS) kicks in. During this process, the data stored on the hard disk begins loading in the background. Once our computer has finished booting, programs and applications appear on the screen. At that point, our computer is ready for use, and we can now carry out our tasks with ease.

Operating systems are installed on computers after manufacturing, based on what the user wants. They can be deleted and reinstalled whenever desired, or replaced with a different operating system.

Among the operating systems widely used around the world today are Linux, Windows, Android, Pardus, and MacOS.

Operating systems aren’t limited to computers, either — they’re also used in phones, tablets, and many other electronic devices.

  • The Linux Operating System:

The Linux operating system takes its name from its creator, Linus Torvalds. In terms of program execution capacity, Linux is a fast operating system with a very low likelihood of virus infection. Computers don’t experience sluggish performance or slow boot times. That said, it’s fairly difficult to use, and can be frustrating for people who aren’t familiar with it.

  • The Windows Operating System:

Windows was developed by Microsoft, and was first released as MS-DOS before later taking on the name Windows. It offers users an interface that’s easy to learn. It’s the most widely known operating system today — some people only know this one by name as “the operating system.” But there are other operating systems out there too, folks. :) Its biggest rival today is the Linux operating system.

  • The Android Operating System:

Android is a Linux-based operating system developed for mobile devices and cell phones, with Google among its developers. It’s open-source (free) software. Today there are thousands of Android apps out there. Google Play is Android’s app store. Android also holds the title of the most widely used mobile operating system in the world.

  • The Pardus Operating System:

PARDUS,

Pardus is an operating system developed by TÜBİTAK, modeled on the Linux operating system. It stands out for its fast performance, easy installation, and multi-language support. Today, it can also be described as Turkey’s first national operating system.

  • MacOS (Apple OS X) Operating System:

APPLE,

Developed by Apple and running only on Apple computers, this system was first introduced to the world in 1984 under the name Macintosh. It’s visually appealing and easy to use. It has continued to evolve through different versions up to the present day.
